|
Julius Caesar is credited with many city
improvements. Pontius Pilate was born here while his father was governor. Today Cartagena is known as Tarragona. It is 60 miles southwest of Barcelona and sits picturesquely 525 feet above the Mediterranean. The old town occupies the southern side of the rocky hill. The Palace of Augustus houses an archaeological museum. Check out the Roman amphitheater and the cathedral. Views of the sea and coast can be had from the Balcón del Mediterráneo. To the east extEnd the Paseo de les Palmeres avenue, laid out in terraces. Tips: Negotiate taxi fares if the driver is not going to use the meter. Nights and Sundays are more. "Clubs" are expensive.
