Information
The ship is scheduled to dock at Capucin Pier. The town
Left can be reached on foot. Taxis are generally available on the pier
but may be in limited supply on Sundays.
Shopping
North of Place Foch are Ajaccio’s major shopping streets.
On Sundays most shops are closed in town. Some tourist-oriented shops
may be open in the morning.
Cuisine
Corsican cuisine features wild boar, goat, mutton,
sausages and cheeses. Azimuno is a marvelous fish soup. Around the main
square are outdoor cafés, which make a perfect place to people-watch
while enjoying a cold drink or a coffee.
Other
Sights
Take a walk around town, admiring the many statues and
monuments of the town's local hero. The main street is the Cours
Napoleon. The old city is bounded by Place Foch, Place de Gaulle and the
mid-16th-century Citadelle.
Place Foch
This tree-shaded square is a favorite meeting point of locals.
Maison Bonaparte
The house were Napoleon was born and lived until he was nine years old
is now a museum. It features assorted memorabilia and a death mask made
about two days after Napoleon's death in May of 1821. On Sundays the
museum is only open in the morning. |
